{"id":32,"date":"2015-04-19T18:09:28","date_gmt":"2015-04-20T00:09:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fomby.com\/momma\/?p=32"},"modified":"2015-04-19T18:09:28","modified_gmt":"2015-04-20T00:09:28","slug":"chocolate-cake-in-a-jar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fomby.com\/momma\/chocolate-cake-in-a-jar\/","title":{"rendered":"Chocolate Cake in a Jar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chocolate Cake in a Jar<\/p>\n<p>Total Time:<br \/>\n1 hr 45 min<br \/>\nPrep 20 min<br \/>\nInactive 1 hr<br \/>\nCook 25 min<br \/>\nYield:<br \/>\n8 servings<br \/>\nLevel:<br \/>\nIntermediate<br \/>\nRecipe courtesy Gale Gand<br \/>\nIngredients<br \/>\nCake:<br \/>\n1\/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened at room temperature<br \/>\n1 1\/2 cups light brown sugar, packed<br \/>\n2 eggs<br \/>\n1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract<br \/>\n6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder<br \/>\n1 1\/2 teaspoons baking soda<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon salt<br \/>\n1 1\/2 cups sifted cake flour<br \/>\n2\/3 cup sour cream<br \/>\n2\/3 cup leftover brewed coffee<br \/>\nFrosting:<br \/>\n2 tablespoons butter<br \/>\n3\/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar<br \/>\n2 to 4 tablespoons water<br \/>\n1 cup powdered sugar<br \/>\n1\/2 cup pecans halves or pieces<br \/>\nDirections<br \/>\nSpecial Equipment: 10 (8ounce)<br \/>\nBall jars<br \/>\nMake the Cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place 10 jars on a\u00a0cookie sheet pan, evenly spaced out.<br \/>\nIn a mixer fitted with a whisk attachment (or using a hand mixer), cream the\u00a0butter until smooth. Add the sugar and eggs and mix until fluffy, about 2\u00a0minutes. Add the vanilla, cocoa, baking soda, and salt and mix. Add half of\u00a0the flour\u037e then half of the sour cream, and mix. Repeat with the remaining\u00a0flour and sour cream. Drizzle in the coffee and mix until smooth. (The batter\u00a0will be thin.)<br \/>\nPour the batter into the jars, filling a little more than half way and bake until\u00a0the tops almost firm to the touch, about 25 minutes.<br \/>\n\u00a9 2015 Television Food Network, G.P. All Rights Reserved.<br \/>\nWhile the cake is baking, make the Frosting: Melt the butter in a small\u00a0saucepan over medium heat\u037e then add the brown sugar and 2 tablespoons<br \/>\nwater and stir until the sugar is dissolved, for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from\u00a0heat and beat in the powdered sugar adding 1 or 2 tablespoons more water\u00a0so that the frosting is fairly liquid and can slide down the sides of the cake in\u00a0the jar.<br \/>\nWhile the cake is still warm, sprinkle the top with pecans and pour the brown\u00a0sugar icing over to cover and soak in.
